Slack

Paste a link to a document in Slack and get a card. Open it and read the document in the side panel.

What people see

DocumentWhat it does
Company, without a password, in an internal conversation of a connected workspaceA card with the title and the author.
Company, anywhere else; private, with or without a passwordA card titled “Private document”, without the title and the author.
Public, protected by a passwordA card titled “Protected document”, without the title and the author.
PublicA card with the title and the author, anywhere.

A card is visible to everyone in the conversation, so it tells no more than ashare.net tells anyone with the link: private and company documents look the same there. Company documents show their title and author only in the internal conversations of your own connected workspace.

The panel

Open a card to see the panel on the right. A public document needs no sign-in. For a private or company document, the first time, the panel asks you to sign in to ashare through Slack. After that it lets you in if your ashare account may open the document. If it may not, it shows Request access, and the owner gets your request as usual.

The panel shows the document itself only when its author is in the organization the workspace is connected to and ashare has turned the preview on for that organization: write to support to ask for it. Otherwise, and always for a document protected by a password, it offers Open in ashare. The document in the panel is the current version. To comment, use Open in ashare; Report is in the panel's menu.

Connect a workspace

An owner or admin of an organization does it: with the button below, or on the Organization page, in the Slack block, Connect Slack workspace. Then allow ashare in Slack; if your Slack asks admins to approve apps, it sends them the request. A workspace belongs to one organization. A Slack Enterprise Grid workspace can’t be connected.

Before you connect, know this: company titles and authors show for everyone in internal conversations of that workspace, guests included, and for people who join later. Private documents, and company documents anywhere else, show a card titled “Private document”.

Add to Slack

To disconnect, press Disconnect in the same block. The cards stop, and the Slack accounts linked in that workspace are unlinked.

You link from the panel: sign in to ashare, confirm, and sign in with Slack. You can link several Slack accounts. ashare emails you every time a Slack account is linked to yours. If it wasn’t you, unlink it at once.

To unlink, open Settings, the Slack block, and press Disconnect next to the workspace.
